looking down the league results this evening...
Coton Green have gone to Div 1 leaders Knowle today and earned a good point (1-1 draw). CASTLE VALE JKS won away at leaders Worcester 2-1 in Div 2. YES that's two sides we have beaten in recent weeks.
Chelmsley town lose away to bottom side Perrywood 3-0! A shock result, well not such a shock result maybe!
Whats the problem?
Ability - i don't think so
Work Rate - again I doubt it
Application - could be a problem, we always seem to struggle against so called 'lesser sides'. Are we guilty of expecting to be just able to turn up and the other side hand us the points?
Brains - probably the biggest factor, adjusting to game situations, adjusting to the opponents style of play. Did it really take us 70 minutes to figure out everything was going through the full backs? After they smashed about 55 diagonal balls to the number 9, were we really suprised when ball 56 also went the same way? Did we not realise that the number 6 was picking up every throw-in? Or that everytime one of our defenders cleared, their players returned it to the same place it had just come! (how many mistimed headers today! or players caught out of position after admiring their passes)
SHEEP (inability to excert any expression and follow the crowd) - one of my favorite sayings, but im afraid it crops up again and again. A couple of lads were having stinkers (it's gonna happen), but rather than rally round them the other 9 choose to follow the same pattern and go down with them, follow em and have stinkers as well. Maybe LEMMINGS is a better word, one jumps off a bridge and the others follow! Lad's if GB ever has to go to war again and I'm stuck in the trenches with you lot I would S*** myself! Surrendering to the opposition at the slighest mistake, NO WAY - come out fighting. If the emeny finds a weakness in our line, then the rest of us plug it and stay strong.
;D BUT it's not all that bad! We can hold our own against sides not only 1 division above us, but 2 divisions above us.
We can beat anybody put in front of us.
We have the best bunch of players this club has had in 15 years.
BUT! We can only get out of this division if you find some consistency, and show the same level of commitment, bollocks, and willingness to die for the course EVERY week, in the bread and butter games. Games away to Perrywood (taking nothing away from them, they totally deserved the result today) should be WON. They are the games that matter more than anything.
Drunken rant over!
Up The Blues - Feed the Force!
